FOND DU LAC - Marian University women's volleyball (4-13, 1-3 NACC) opened back-to-back matches with a straight-sets loss to Aurora with set scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-13.
The Sabres trailed late in the opener by a 23-15 tally but Marian didn't go away quietly scoring five-consecutive points behind a pair of service aces from senior Sara Komosa and kills from freshman Monica Dreifuerst. The quick spurt pulled Marian to within three points but an attack error by the Sabres and service error sealed the Spartan win.
The second set was similar as Aurora led early and pulled ahead by nine at 20-11 before Marian rattled off six of the next eight points to pull to within six. Aurora then was able to close out the set, however. Marian opened the third set with a lead but Aurora would score nine-straight points to pull ahead and secure the sweep.
Dreifuerst led the offense and nearly missed a double-double with nine kills and nine digs. Komosa led the back row with a team-high 16 digs, while Taylor also added 10 digs. Freshman Aspyn Krygiel assisted on 12 kills to go with six digs and a service ace.
Marian takes on Benedictine at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 5 in NACC action.
