Marian cross country announces 2017 schedule

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University cross country has announced their upcoming schedule for the 2017 season.

"A majority of our runners are still very young with a couple of upper classmen in the mix, so I expect there to be a learning curve at the beginning of the season," commented head cross country coach Cory Zimmerman on the expectations for the team.  "That being said, once they all hit their stride I think we will see great things out of them with a lot of potential for some good individual and team finishes this year.  We have a few student-athletes returning from injuries as well so that will be a big benefit to have them back this season."

Marian opens the season at Colburn Park for the Tom Barry Invitational hosted by St. Norbert College Saturday, Sept. 2.  A week later the Sabres hit the road for CUW where MU will compete in the Ken Weidt Classic.  After a couple weeks off, Marian returns to action Saturday, Sept. 30 for the WLC Warrior Invite at Greenfield Park, hosted by NACC opponent Wisconsin Lutheran.

Marian then travels a little up the road for the Gene Davis Invitational, hosted by Lawrence, Saturday, Oct. 7 before opening championship season.  Maranatha Baptist hosts the Wisconsin Private Championships Saturday, Oct. 14.  The Sabres then make a return to Concordia Wisconsin Saturday, Oct. 28 for the NACC Championships.

The NCAA Regionals will be held Saturday, Nov. 11 at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill. with the meet being hosted by Augustana College.

"Our schedule this year is similar to previous seasons and has a good mixture of tougher courses and faster courses," commented Zimmerman on the 2017 schedule.  "That mixture should provide us a good variety throughout the year.  The breaks and back-to-back races during the season should be well timed out and should prepare us for some great midseason and end of season performances.  We should be able to compete against most if not all of the teams we will be running against this year."
