(Milwaukee, WI) - Marian University will head into this weekend's Northern Athletics Conference Tournament with some momentum as they defeated Alverno College 9-0 on Tuesday evening. With the victory, the Sabres set new highs in the record books. Marian finishes the regular season with a 12-5 record overall and a 9-2 record in the NAC. Both are school records for victories.
Marian won all six singles matches in two sets. A highlight in singles play was freshman Reilly Connaher (Fond du Lac, WI) earning the victory to help her finish the regular season with a perfect 16-0 record at \#5 singles. Connaher had already set the record for most singles victories in a single season at any position, but became the first player in school history to finish the regular season undefeated.
Melanie Seitz (Panama City, Panama) is also now tied for the second most singles victories in a season as she finished 14-2.
Connaher was also involved in rewriting the record books in doubles play. Her and teammate, Rebecca Heczko (Iron Mountain, MI), finished 14-3 at \#2 doubles. The fourteen victories is the most for any doubles team in school history.
Marian will look to continue their successful season this weekend at the NAC Tournament, which will be held at the Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison.
