Tony Draves, Director of Athletics

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Marian University Department of Athletics. Our department strives to be an integral part of the college education of our student-athletes as they develop their mind, body, and spirit in our 21 intercollegiate sports, or five club sports.

The student-athletes, staff, and we proudly represent Marian University both internally and externally with competitive character and good sportsmanship. As part of an educational community, the department helps student-athletes compete at their highest levels while still helping them achieve academic success in the classroom.

The Sabres have had a rich history of athletic achievement at both a conference and national level. Since starting an intercollegiate athletic program in 1972, the Sabres have won 71 regular season conference championships and 32 conference tournament titles. Since joining the NCAA in 1997, nine different programs have competed in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.  In 2017, our NCAA men's hockey program became the first to compete in the NCAA Division III National Tournament as an at-large bid.

As a proud member of Division III of the NCAA, we do not offer financial aid for athletic ability. Most of our intercollegiate sports compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, which is made up of 14 private colleges in Wisconsin and Illinois. Member institutions subscribe to shared values and evident commitments to academic excellence, equal opportunity, sportsmanship, and fair play.

The men's and women's NCAA hockey teams participate in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, which features 10 schools on the men's side women's side, spread out across Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana.  Our women's bowling team competes in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, our ACHA Divsion II program is a member of the Northern Collegiate Hockey League, the ACHA Division III program is part of the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association, and our eSports teams are a member of the National Association of Collegiate eSports.  The latest addition to our athletic department, field hockey, competes in the Collegiate Field Hockey Conference.

Take a look around our website, attend an event or email us for more information about our department. Thank you for your interest in Sabre Athletics and Marian University. Go Sabres!
