MADISON, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The No. 6 seeded Marian University women's tennis team saw its season come to an end as it fell to the third-seeded and host Edgewood College Eagles, 5-1, in the Northern Athletics Conference Team Tournament First Round at Rennenbohm Park.
The Marian No. 3 doubles team of
Sarah Brooker and Chelsea Will captured the lone victory for the Sabres, taking an 8-6 decision over Jessica Cihlar and Carolyn Lorenz. Edgewood took wins at No. 1, 3 and 4 singles as well as No. 1 and 2 doubles, reaching five wins to end the match.
Edgewood improves to 14-15 overall and advances to the NAC Tournament semifinals in Kohler. Meanwhile, Marian ends its season 9-7 overall.
In No. 1 singles, EC's Shae Beckwith overcame
Ann Goyke, 6-4 and 6-2, while Taylor Storbakken took down Marian's
Brynn Hartzell, 6-4 and 6-0, at No. 3 singles. At No. 4, EC's Kristen Boone proved too much for MU's
Alyssa Wittchow, 6-3 and 6-1.

Rebecca Heczko dropped an 8-2 decision at No. 1 singles. Despite the loss, Heczko still finishes her career as the winningest women's tennis player to come through Marian, recording 92 victories in singles and doubles combined throughout her illustrious career.
Heczko will be a great loss to the Sabres, but Marian will return everyone else for the 2012-13 campaign.
