OSHKOSH, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 setback to host UW-Oshkosh in a non-conference affair at the Oshkosh YMCA this afternoon, Sept. 7. Reilly Connaher and Chelsey Will earned the team's only point with a win at #2 singles.
It was a challenging match-up as the Sabres took on an ever-competitive state school from the WIAC. However, Brynn Hartzell at #2 singles gave Morgan Counts all that she could handle. After taking the first set, 6-4, Hartzell put the pressure on Counts to respond and she did so in a 6-2 second-set win. She then used the momentum with a 10-2 third set tie-breaker to erase the chances of an upset bid for Hartzell.
Connaher and Will helped Marian avoid being swept with an 8-1 win over Valerie Langkau and Karlie Laveau at #2 doubles.
