FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - With the temperatures high and the humidity even higher, the Marian University women's tennis team and Wisconsin Lutheran College met at Riverside Park on Wednesday afternoon for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference women's tennis match. After defeating the Rockford Regents on Saturday 8-1, the Sabres have now dropped two in a row to NACC opponents.
At #1 singles, it was junior Ann Goyke suffering defeat to Kendall Bonnin of Wisconsin Lutheran by a score of 6-0,6-0. The Sabres got on the board at #2 singles with junior Brynn Hartzell defeating Petra Krause by default. Senior Rachel Stoffel also recorded a victory by default at #3 singles. Both were leading their match when their opponents were forced to drop out due to injury.
Freshman Melissa Spannbauer came back from dropping her first set 4-6, to defeat Amanda Pearson 6-3 and 10-3. Goyke and Hartzell kept things close at #1 doubles, but would fall 8-6 to Bonnin and Kaylyn Geddes.
Marian returns to action this weekend, taking on Benedictine and Aurora on the road, continuing their conference season.
