FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's tennis team dropped a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match against Concordia University Wisconsin, 7-2, at Buttermilk Creek Park, this afternoon, Sept. 24.
Ann Goyke and Brynn Hartzell turned in victories for the Blue and White, but it resulted in the Sabres' second loss in their last three outings. Concordia Wisconsin ceased control of the match with three doubles and four singles wins. Goyke and Hartzell curtailed the momentum against the Falcons, but it was regained quickly en route to the road victory.
The Falcons improved to 9-2 overall, 9-2 in the NACC with the win, while the Sabres dropped to 4-9 (3-7 NACC) with the loss.
Goyke and Hartzell have now won four straight matches at #1 and #2 singles, respectively. It marks season-long winning streaks for both.
Rachel Stoffell and Melissa Spannbauer got off to superb starts at #3 and #4 singles, respectively, winning the first set with ease. However, each of their opponents came from behind to win the next two sets, including a third set tie-break.
The Sabres will honor Goyke and Hartzell in the team's next home match against Concordia University Chicago Friday, Oct. 4, which will be recognized as Senior Day. First serve is set for 4 p.m. at Center Court Tennis Club in Fond du Lac.
