FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's tennis team couldn't make it two straight wins as the upstart Lakeland College Muskies recorded the 8-1 road victory at Buttermilk Creek Park, this afternoon, Sept. 4.
The doubles tandem of Robyn Cords and Rachel Stoffell took it to their counterparts with an 8-1 victory to salvage one-of-three doubles matches. Lakeland answered back in the singles circuit and claimed all six individual matches.
Lakeland improved to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play, while Marian dropped to 1-2 (1-1 NACC) with the loss.
Stoffell gave the best effort for Marian in singles play by stealing a set from Geanina Liston. Liston proved to be too much as she went on to win in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Sabres will be back in action this weekend when they hit the road for the first time this season, taking on Edgewood (10 a.m.) and Rockford (2 p.m.) Saturday, Sept. 7.
