FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) -- Marian University women's tennis was in action again today at Buttermilk Creek Park hosting Alverno College. The Sabres found themselves trailing early and were unable to recover as the Inferno prevailed over Marian 9-0.
It was a rough start for the Sabres, getting swept in doubles by an overpowering Alverno attack. After having back-to-back 8-3 setbacks, the Inferno finished doubles strong with an 8-0 victory from Charmaine Clark and Devin Bach.
The Inferno kept roaring through the competition during singles, winning the next six matches in impressive fashion. Marian's Samantha Austin and Chelsea Schoenick gave the Sabres a fighting chance, but Alverno had other plans, finalizing the Sabres' fate.
With 10 days of rest until their next competition, the Sabres look to come back stronger than ever when they go visit Wisconsin Lutheran and Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, Sept. 27. The matches start at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
