FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's tennis team was turned aside by Lawrence University, 9-0, in its home opener at Buttermilk Creek Park this afternoon, Sept. 5.
The Sabres (1-3) entered the day looking for its second win over a Midwest Conference opponent this season after knocking off Ripon in the season's first match. However, a far more polished Viking squad was able to put together a near-flawless match en route to a shutout.
Marian's #1 & #2 doubles teams were only able to take a game apiece as Lawrence got things off to a promising start with three points before singles play.
A deep Lawrence lineup didn't surrender a game following the first three singles matches as it cruised to the win.
The Sabres will stay home and host Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference foes Benedictine and Aurora at the Fond du Lac High School tennis courts tomorrow, Sept. 6. Matches are slated for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
