MADISON, Wis. – The Marian University women's tennis team opened the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference portion of its schedule with an 8-1 win over Aurora and 7-2 victory against Dominican.
The matches, both originally scheduled to be played in Fond du Lac, were moved to the Madison due to expected rain. Despite competing at a neutral court the Sabres felt right at home.
In the morning session the Sabres quickly got to work versus Aurora (0-4, 0-3 NACC).
Sophomore Meg Hartzell (No. 1 singles) eased to a 6-4, 6-2 victory, freshman Mackenzie Meyers (No. 3 singles) rolled 6-3, 6-0 and sophomore Andrea Krahenbuhl (No. 4 singles) won 6-3, 6-2.
Senior Melissa Spannbauer (No. 5 singles) easily won 6-1, 6-4 and sophomore Kristin Houle (No. 6 singles) worked quickly, 6-0, 6-1.
The Sabres swept the Spartans in doubles.
Sophomore Celeste Degeneffe and Hartzell (No. 1 doubles) won 8-2, sophomore Alissa Heid and Meyers (No. 2 doubles) rolled 8-1 and sophomore Alyssa Ostrowski and Houle (No. 3 doubles) eased to an 8-3 win.
MU (3-2, 2-0 NACC) was just as dominant versus Dominican (1-3, 1-2 NACC).
Hartzell (No. 1 singles) won 6-2, 6-1 and Meyers (No. 2 singles) rolled 6-1, 6-0. Krahenbuhl (No. 3 singles) was victorious 6-3, 6-4 and Degeneffe (No. 4 singles) won easily, 6-1, 6-1.
Spannbauer (No. 5 singles) ran her winning streak to five matches in a row with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
The Sabres proved again to be effective in doubles.
Hartzell and Degeneffe (No. 1 doubles) rolled 8-1 and Heid and Meyers eased to an 8-5 victory.
The Sabres return to the court Sept. 13 at Alverno.
