FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian University women's tennis team was unable to gain momentum and dropped an 8-1 non-conference contest versus Lawrence Thursday evening at Buttermilk Creek Park.
Sophomore Kristin Houle (No. 5 singles) was the Sabres' lone victor, and won 6-3, (5-7), 1-0 (10-7 tie-breaker).
Sophomore Andrea Krahenbuhl (No. 4 singles) came up short and lost 6-2 (2-6), 1-0 (10-5 tie-breaker). Freshman Mackenzie Meyers (No. 3 singles) fought hard and lost (4-6), 6-2, 1-0 (10-6 tiebreaker).
Meg Hartzell (No.1 singles) lost in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 and Alissa Heid (No. 2 singles) suffered a 6-1, 6-4 setback. Mati Kissack (No. 6 singles) lost 6-0, 6-3.
The Sabres were swept in doubles play. Celeste Degeneffe and Hartzell (No. 1 singles) lost 8-1, Meyers and Heid (No. 2 doubles) suffered an 8-2 setback and Melissa Spannbauer and Alyssa Ostrowski (No. 3 doubles) fell 8-0.
MU returns to conference play Saturday and travel to Lakeland and Concordia Wisconsin.
