RIPON, Wis. – The Marian University women's tennis earned its first team win of the season and marched past Ripon 9-0 Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore Meg Hartzell (No. 1 singles) won in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 and sophomore Alissa Heid (No. 2 singles) followed that up with a convincing 7-5, 6-2 victory.
True freshman Mackenzie Meyers (No. 3 singles) earned her second win in a row and eased to a 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 triumph, while sophomore Andrea Krahenbuhl (No. 4 singles) raced to a 6-1, 3-6, 10-7 victory.
Senior Melissa Spannbauer (No. 5 singles) won 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 and Kristin Houle (No. 6 singles) earned an 8-0 victory.
The Sabres were just as dominant in doubles play.
Hartzell and Celeste Degeneffe (No. 1 singles) rolled to an 8-4 win, Heid and Meyers (No. 2 doubles) notched an 8-5 victory and Alyssa Ostrowski and Mati Kissack (No. 3 doubles) seized an 8-2 win.
The Sabres open conference play Saturday versus Aurora and Dominican at Buttermilk Creek Park.
