Sabre women's tennis drops thriller to Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Marian University women's tennis (7-5, 5-2 NACC) dropped their final non-conference test of the fall season by a 5-4 final to Carroll.

The Sabres were able to open with a 2-1 lead after doubles action but the Pioneers were able to rally in singles action to take the victory.  Brenda Ordonez and Celeste Degeneffe took the top flight of doubles action 8-6, while Sarah Mereness and Mati Kissack teamed up at No. 3 doubles for an 8-5 victory.

In singles action, Marian would take the No. 3 and No. 5 flight but a pair of three-set defeats at No. 4 and No. 6 proved to be the difference.  Mackenzie Meyers took the No. 3 flight 6-1, 6-3 and Ordonez was able to complete a sweep for the day with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5.  Kristin Houle rallied to force a third set at No. 4 singles but an intense third set saw her fall 12-10.  Similarly, Aubree Helstad needed a second set victory to force a third set at No. 6 singles but a 10-5 win for Carroll secured the Pioneer victory.

Marian hosts MSOE in their final home match of the fall season tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. from Fond du Lac High School.
