SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Marian University women's tennis (4-12, 3-6 NACC) played its only matches of the spring defeating Lakeland 9-0 and falling to Northwestern (Minn.) 9-0.
Carly Paulson nearly earned a victory at the top flight of singles action as the Sabres opened the day against UNW. Paulson earned a 6-2 win in the first set but dropped the final two sets 6-0 and 10-6.
Marian was able to bounce back in their second match of the day defeating Lakeland for the second time this season. Paulson teamed up with Aeryn Olson for an 8-1 win at the top doubles flight, while Julia Loomans and Katrina Pokorny won No. 2 doubles with an identical score. Madeline Chimenti and Shelby Tryba then closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win.
Pokorny led the way in singles with a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the No. 6 flight. Olson only dropped one game at the No. 2 flight, and Paulson fell in a pair of games in the first set of her No. 1 match. Aubree Helstad closed out her Marian career with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. flight, while Tryba won 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 3 singles flight. Closing out the sweep was Loomans at No. 5 who won 6-3 and 7-6 after a tiebreak.
