One of the best to ever suit up for the Marian men's volleyball program, senior Derek Wills ended an illustrious career as the all-time leader for kills.

The historic swing came while the Sabres were out at California as part of the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational.  After a tough first two days of the trip, Marian was able to bounce back on the final day against North Park with a five-set win.  Wills led the way with a match-high 16 kills including his 1,325th to become the all-time leader for kills passing Jon Smallpage who finished with 1,324.  The duo are the only student-athletes in the history of the program to eclipse 1,000 kills.

Wills went on to finish the season with 320 kills, the second-highest total of his career, to finish with 1,403 kills.  This was enough to earn him a spot on the All-NACC First Team.  It was his fifth all-conference selection from the NACC and the third time he was named to the first team.  Along with being the all-time leader for kills, Wills also finished atop the program leaderboard for total sets played with 411.  He is the only student-athlete to compete in more than 400 sets during his career.

Adding to his pair of all-time leaderboard spots, Wills closed his career second for kills per set at 3.41, total points with 1,580.0 and points per set at 3.8.  He is one of just three student-athletes with more than 1,000 points and joins Smallpage as the only student-athletes with more than 1,500 points.  Smallpage narrowly edged Wills with his 1,591.0 total points and 4.3 points per set average.  Wills also had a prowess on the defensive side finishing third all-time with 782 digs, one of just three student-athletes to reach 700 career digs.
