Marian ACHA D3 finishes season with sweep of UWP

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. / FOND DU LAC - Marian University ACHA D3 hockey 3-16-0, 0-13-0 MACHA) closed out its season with a pair of 4-2 wins over UW-Platteville.

  GAME 1 (AWAY, W, 4-2)
  • The Pioneers were able to open the scoring at the 7:27 mark but Marian bounced back with a pair of goals separated by 1:03.
  • Brandon Fain scored both goals with Brandon Thiesenhusen and Tyler Queen each earning an assist on the second.
  • The 2-1 lead grew to 3-1 when Bennett Luke lit the lamp at the 4:11 mark of the second period.
  • UWP responded trimming its deficit to one with 3:26 left in the period.
  • The 3-2 Sabre lead held for most of the final period with Roenick Vosburg putting the game away with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
GAME 2 (HOME, W, 4-2)
  • UW-Platteville was able to open the scoring for a second straight day with a power-play goal.
  • Roenick Vosburg was able to even the score with a power-play goal with 2:26 left in the opening period.
  • The 1-1 stalemate held all the way to the third period before Samson Hamburg gave Marian the lead 3:02 into the period.
  • James Murphy lit the lamp on a power play to give Marian breathing room at 3-1.
  • The Pioneers were able to bring the score to 3-2 with 3:55 to play, but Tyler Queen iced the game with a goal in the final minute.
