Marian men's bowling reaches semifinals of USBC ITC National Championship

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Marian University men's bowling made the most of its first trip to the USBC ITC National Championship reaching the semifinals.

  • Marian had a slow start in qualifying opening in just 14th place after the first block.
  • The Sabres had 2,198 pins through the first 12 games with only four games of at least 200 pins.
  • Marian was able to move up two spots to 12th after the second block with a total pinfall of 2,139.
  • This put Marian at 4,337 pins through the 24 qualifying games, or a 180.7 average.
  • The highest score during qualifying for Marian was a 248 in the sixth game.
  • Marian opened its bracket play against No. 5 St. Ambrose but fell 4-1.
  • The Sabres then found its stride winning four straight elimination matches.
  • Marian opened with a 4-3 win over No. 13 Purdue followed by a 4-2 win against No. 9 McKendree.
  • The Sabres then went the distance in the next two matches earning 4-3 wins over No. 4 Wichita State and No. 16 Southern Nazarene.
  • This earned Marian a spot in the championship round of the red bracket.
  • The Sabres once again went to a best-of-seven game for a third straight match but were defeated by St. Ambrose.
  • The Fighting Bees went on to defeat Mount Mercy to win the national championship.
