Chris Frederickson was named the second head coach of the Marian ACHA D2 program in August of 2017.
"It's an honor to announce that Chris 'Freddy' Frederickson will be taking over the leadership of our ACHA club hockey program," commented Bartelt. "As an alumnus of our hockey program, Chris understands the rich tradition of Marian hockey and I know he will do an outstanding job with the continual growth of both programs."
A 2014 graduate of Marian, Frederickson spent four seasons as a goaltender in the Marian men's hockey program. The Sabres went a combined 57-42-7 in the four seasons he was a member of the program with three seasons where the Sabres posted an above .500 record. In his freshman season, Marian posted the second most wins in a single season in program history going 19-8-0. The Marian goalies also had the fifth lowest goals against average and the fourth highest save percentage in a single season in program history that same season.
"I'm very excited to return to Marian University to start my collegiate coaching career," commented Frederickson. "I have always loved my four-year experience at Marian on and off the ice, and want my present and future student-athletes to have the same. I especially want to thank the director of athletics Jason Bartelt and head men's hockey coach Zach Gaynor for the opportunity to come back to my alma mater. I can't wait to get the season started."
Frederickson also played for the East Coast Eagles of the MetJHL and in his second season played in 22 games with a 4.59 goals against average and .843 save percentage.
The Marian University ACHA Division II men's hockey program won the NCHL Title in their inaugural season going 18-4-0 including a perfect 9-0-0 at home. The Sabres spent most of the season ranked regionally and were as high as No. 5. Offensively, the Sabres averaged 5.3 goals per game scoring five or more goals in 15 games. The Sabres were just as impressive on the defensive end only allowing 43 goals, 2.0 goals per game, with five shutouts.
