Marian University Athletics Major Award Winners
Biography
MINNEAPOLIS - After one of the most successful seasons in program history, the Marian men's hockey squad had a pair of student-athletes named D3Hockey.com Third Team All-Region in junior goaltender Mike Baldwin and freshman Gianni Mangone.
Mangone (12-14--26) was one of the most consistent scorers for the Sabres this season and ranked second amongst all defensemen in the country with a 1.00 points per game average in just his first season in a Sabre sweater. The blue liner also had four game winning goals to rank 11th in the nation. Mangone netted his first career hat trick as part of a four-point weekend against CUW that earned him NCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors and a spot on the D3Hockey.com Team of the Week. The freshman was also named to the All-NCHA and All-NCHA Freshman teams.
A total of eight players from the West All-Region teams hailed from the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
