Biography
TOWSON, Md. (SabreAthletics.com) – Senior right-handed pitcher Jesse Blum was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Baseball Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced today Wednesday, May 30.
The Marion, Wis. native turned in a solid senior campaign and graduated with a degree in finance, finishing with a 3.93 GPA. He was one of two pitchers on the second team, joining Brendan Close of Moravian.
Blum struggled down the stretch due to injury, but was one of the best pitchers in the league over his first five starts when he went 3-2 with a 1.03 ERA. He baffled Wesleyan (Conn.), Finlandia and Lakeland in consecutive starts, earning wins against all of them. Blum earned Northern Athletics Conference Pitcher of the Week accolades after his win over Wesleyan in which he allowed just a run over 6.1 innings, while retiring 12 straight batters at one point. He went on to finish the 2012 season with a 3-4 record and a 4.00 ERA.
He was one of four NAC players named to the three Capital One Academic All-America teams. He joins Jake Zadra of Edgewood on the second team, while Ryan Adams of Aurora was named to the first team and Tim Mackey of Aurora to the third team.
Outfielder Drew Golz of Wheaton (Ill.) was the Academic All-American of the Year.
