Dan Moriarty was announced as the fourth head coach in Marian men's lacrosse program history in November of 2022.
"We're excited to have Dan take over the men's lacrosse program," said Draves. "His energy and ability to form relationships with our student-athletes are just what the program needs right now. Congratulations to Dan and I look forward to him working with our student-athletes to elevate the program to new heights."
Moriarty joins the Sabres after spending two seasons at Western Connecticut State, NCAA Division III, where he served as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator. Using an offensive scheme constructed by Moriarty, the Wolves ranked 14th in the country last season for scoring and had three student-athletes record at least 80 points. Western Connecticut State would reach the LEC Championship in 2021 falling to UMass Boston 14-13. Moriarty also aided in the guidance of two student-athletes who went on to earn All-American honors by USILA.
Prior to Western Connecticut State, Moriarty served as the head coach at the University of Southern California, Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I. Moriarty led the Trojans to the first wins over ranked opponents in program history defeating No. 24 Oregon State and No. 14 University of California Santa Barbara. He would also guide the first All-American in program history along with four SLC all-conference honorees. Moriarty helped build the foundation for a USC program that is now consistently ranked inside the top 10 of the nation.
He also had stops at Alderson Broaddus, NCAA Division II, and Southwestern University, NCAA Division III, as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at both institutions. While with the Pirates, Moriarty's offense ranked in the top 10 of the nation for assists per game, points per game, and shooting percentage. The Alderson Broaddus program had gone 0-27 in the first two seasons of existence but Moriarty was part of a coaching staff that helped lead the Battlers to a 9-19 record in their third season of existence.
"I would like to first thank Tony Draves and the hiring committee for giving me this opportunity to lead the men's lacrosse program," said Moriarty. "The one thing that kept popping up during the interview process was how much of a family atmosphere the Marian University campus has and I am excited to become a part of it. I'd also like to thank all of my friends and family who have supported me throughout my journey thus far. I can't wait to get to Fond du Lac, meet the team, meet members of the Wisconsin lacrosse community, and get started with getting Marian men's lacrosse where it should be; competing for NACC Championships year in and year out. Go Sabres!"
Moriarty was also a standout student-athlete competing at Herkimer County Community College and Adelphi University, NCAA Division II. At Herkimer, Moriarty was the 2011 Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and was an NJCAA All-American nominee. Then at Adelphi, he helped lead the Panthers to back-to-back appearances at the Final Four and earned a D2ADA Academic Achievement award. The Panthers finished with a 31-5 during his time on the field.
Moriarty earned his bachelors of science in physical education in 2014 from Adelphi and earned an associate degree in liberal arts from Herkimer in 2011.
