Dick Diener joined the Marian men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2024.
Diener was a highly successful coach at the high school level for 25 years in the state of Wisconsin. During his high school coaching career, Diener won 12 conference championships, 14 regional championships, seven section championships, and made seven appearances at the state tournament. Diener helped lead Colfax to a Class C State Championship in 17-8 after boasting a 16-2 record. Colfax would beat Pardeeville 75-61 in the championship game. Then as the head coach of Fond du Lac, Diener helped lead the Cardinals to silver-ball finishes in the state tournament in 1987 and 2002. In 2007, Diener was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Hall of Fame.
After the conclusion of his high school coaching career, Diener moved to the collegiate ranks serving as an assistant under his son Drew at Cardinal Stritch and Rockhurst. The Wolves earned conference championships and qualified for the national tournament in all six seasons he coached. He also helped lead Cardinal Stritch to an NAIA Division II National Championship in 2013 after going 35-3.
