Rylee Orr was added to the NCAA men's hockey coaching staff as an assistant in 2022 and was named the head coach for the women's tennis program in August of 2023.
Orr comes to Marian after serving as the head coach at the University of Oregon, ACHA Division II, for four seasons. The Ducks posted a winning record in all four of his years and he helped guide Oregon to three conference championships and three trips to the ACHA Tournament. The 2018-19 season saw Orr lead Oregon to its first PAC-8 championship since 2008-09 earning him PAC-8 Coach of the Year recognition. The following two years saw the Ducks go a combined 46-5-0-1 with two more PAC-8 championships. This doubled the amount of conference championships Oregon had won prior to the arrival of Orr. His leadership also allowed Oregon to make the transition to ACHA Division I for this upcoming season.
His playing career saw him compete at Utah State, ACHA Division II, for four seasons. Orr served as an assistant captain in his final season and helped lead the Aggies to a conference championship. The Utah State hockey program would also qualify for the national tournament three times. Orr would record 60 points as a sophomore and then posted a 62-point season as a senior to finish his career with 170 total points. Following his career at Utah State, Orr would play one season professionally in Germany with EHC Neuwied. In his 32 games overseas, Orr led the team in scoring with 22 goals and 20 assists for 42 total points.
"We are thrilled to add coach Orr to the Marian hockey program," said Van Diest. "Rylee has done a tremendous job building the University of Oregon hockey program into a powerhouse over the last four years. I look forward to him continuing his success with the Sabres. Rylee is a tireless recruiter, a great hockey mind, and will be a great addition to our staff and program as a whole."
Orr graduated from Utah State University in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in human movement science.
