Marcus Wiegert

Marcus Wiegert is in his eighth season at Marian University, including his fourth as head coach of the women’s tennis program and all as an assistant men’s basketball coach.

In his first three seasons, Wiegert guided the women’s tennis program to an impressive turnaround. He took the Sabres from a one-win season in 2014-15 to the second-most wins in a single season all-time, finishing with a 11-9 mark in 2016-17.  In addition, the Sabres hosted their first NACC tournament match and returned to the conference tournament semifinals in 2016-17. From 2014-17, Wiegert was also the head coach of the men’s tennis program.

As an assistant coach for men’s basketball, Wiegert is responsible for many of the day-to-day tasks within the program as well as having a heavy hand on the recruiting trail. In 2013-14, Marian won the NACC regular season and tournament championship with a 22-7 overall record and 17-3 league mark. The Sabres qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001 and came one point away from knocking off the No. 1 team in the country, UW-Stevens Point, on the road in the first round.

A native of Deerbrook, Wisconsin, Wiegert was a 2008 graduate of Marian University with a degree in sport and recreation management and a minor in information technology. In August of 2016, Wiegert earned his master's degree in Sports Management from Lasell College. Prior to returning to Marian, Wiegert spent stints at Carroll and UW-Superior as an assistant coach.

Wiegert and his wife, Nicole, currently reside in Fond du Lac.
