Box Score (Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University dominated play on Saturday at Smith Fields, but for eighty-four minutes, had nothing to show for it. Marian finished their 4-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College with an amazing 42-0 advantage in shots, but didn't score until the 84:15 mark. Senior
Carly Saunders (Eagle River, WI) came up big with the eventual game-winner as she scored right in front of the net on an assist from
Kim Kriese (Stevens Point, WI).
Saunders' goal got the Sabres going and they went on to score three more goals in the final 2:17 of play. Danielle Grable (Neenah, WI) scored twice, including a penalty kick with just three seconds remaining and Mariel Bartolutti (Fond du Lac, WI) also added a goal. Bartolutti assisted on Grable's first goal, while Kriese assisted on Bartolutti's goal.
Tiffany Erdman (Wausau, WI) and Jordan Dykstra (Cedar Grove, WI) combined to shut out the Warriors, as they each played a half.
Marian had plenty of chances to score early, but a few misses and some solid goalkeeping by the Warriors made things interesting.
The Sabres are back in action on Tuesday, as they will travel to Maranatha Baptist. Action is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
