(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University finished off a successful weekend on Saturday as they defeated MSOE 4-3. Marian lit the lamp three times in the first period and held on to move to 3-2 on the season and 2-2 in the MCHA.
Marian's Adam Freeman (Wauwatosa, WI) gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead 4:45 into the first period as he was assisted on the play by Brian Pierpont (Superior, WI) and Ryan Hitchcock (Butte, MT). The Raiders evened things nearly four minutes later as Sean McGaughy scored. Marian's Brendan Hull (Calgary, AB) scored his third goal of the weekend at the 9:15 mark to make it 2-1. He was assisted by Dakota Dubetz (Chestermore, AB) and Nick Henkemeyer (Prior Lake, MN). Tommy Fitzpatrick (Ft. McMurray, AB) gave the Sabres a 3-1 lead at the 9:41 mark off assists from Hull and Dubetz.
In the second, Todd Collins (Whitby, ON) scored a power play goal in the 12th minute off assists from Henkemeyer and Hitchcock. MSOE's Nick Gorup scored with less than a minute to go in the period to cut Marian's 4-2.
In the third, Gorup made things interesting as he scored at the 17:49 mark to cut Marian's lead to 4-3. The Raiders pulled the goalie and added an extra attacker, but were unable to put a shot on goal.
Alex Bjerk (Roseau, MN) picked up the victory in goal for the Sabres, stopping 28 shots in the process.
Marian out-shot the Raiders 35-31 and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
