Box Score (Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University shot 50% from the floor on Sunday afternoon and opened their season with a 78-57 victory over Beloit College. With the victory, the Sabres snapped a five-game losing streak against the Buccaneers. Marian never trailed in the contest and saw its lead reach twenty-six points late in the second half.
In the first, Marian shot 13-for-26 from the field and jumped out to a 34-23 lead at the break. Logan Rankin (Algoma, WI) had a solid half as he was 5-for-6 from the floor for 12 points. He also led the team in rebounds in the half with five. Marian's largest lead in the half was fourteen points.
In the second, the closest the Buccaneers got was an eight-point deficit (35-27) with 19:15 to play in the half. From there it was all Marian as the Sabres were able to get most reserves some valuable playing time.
Rankin led the Sabres with 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He also added 7 rebounds. Bryan Ashbeck (Wabeno, WI) was another Sabre in double-figures, as he finished with 15 points. He was 3-for-4 from behind-the-arc.
Josh Washington (Milwaukee, WI) came off the bench to lead the team with 10 rebounds. Kevin Hudak (Ashwaubenon, WI) recorded 8 points and added a game-high 4 assists.
Marian is back in action again on Tuesday, as they will play at Lawrence University. Action is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
