(Superior, WI) - Marian University dropped a 5-3 non-conference tilt at UW-Superior on Friday evening. The Yellowjackets scored twice in the final 2:42 of play to pull out the victory. UW-Superior is now 5-2-1 on the season, while Marian is now 5-3 overall.
Marian had a 33-32 advantage in shots and went 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Yellowjackets were 0-for-2 with the advantage.
Marian's Nick Henkemeyer (Prior Lake, MN) gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead just 2:40 into the game. Brian Pierpont (Superior, WI) tallied an assist on the play. The Yellowjackets evened the game at the 13:04 mark.
In the second, UW-Superior took a 2-1 lead at the 12:55 mark. Marian was quick to answer in the third period, however, as Justin Cormier (Calgary, AB) evened things at the 7:20 mark off assists from goalie Alex Bjerk (Roseau, MN) and Nick Cinquegrani (Rolling Meadows, IL). After a shorthanded goal by the Yellowjackets at the 14:28 mark, Cinquegrani lit the lamp to even the game at the 15:17 mark. Pierpont and Chris Thompson (Woodbury, MN) recorded helpers on the power play goal.
The Yellowjackets went on to score the game-winner at the 17:18 mark and added an empty net goal late in the game.
Bjerk recorded 27 saves for the Sabres in the contest.
