Box Score (Menomonie, WI) - Marian University won the consolation game of the UW-Stout Turkey Shootout on Sunday, defeating Northland College 75-67. On Saturday, the Sabres dropped their opener 75-63 to Mount Mercy College. Marian is now 3-4 on the season as they prepare for their Northern Athletics Conference opener at Edgewood College on Tuesday.
In their loss to Mount Mercy, the Mustangs led 36-24 at the break, but Marian was able to cut the deficit to 43-41 with 13:52 to play. The Mustangs followed that up with a 7-0 run over the next 1:27 to move the lead back to nine points. Marian was able to get within two points on two different occasions after the run, but could never regain the lead.
The Sabres shot just 32% (24-for-74) from the field and were led by Kevin Hudak's (Ashwaubenon, WI) 15 points. He also added 4 assists. Colin Lohenry (Algoma, WI) recorded 14 points, while Logan Rankin (Algoma, WI) and Jeff Harris (Calumet Park, IL) added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Joel Clark (Ashwaubenon, WI) led the team with 10 rebounds.
The Mustangs outrebounded the Sabres 50-44 in the game.
In the consolation game, Marian took a 38-21 lead into the locker room against the LumberJacks and never looked back. The Sabres shot 47% from the floor and held a 40-28 advantage on the boards. Marian dominated the paint, outscoring the Lumberjacks 28-14 down low.
Rankin led the team 14 points, while Clark (12) and Harris (10) were also in double-figures. Hudak chipped in with 9 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals, while Andrew Georgson (Jefferson, WI) was solid with 9 points and 8 rebounds.
Marian led by as many as 18 points on two different occasions in the second half.
