(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University scored first on Friday, but it was not enough, as the Sabres fell 4-1 to \#6 Adrian College. Marian is now 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association. Adrian is 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the MCHA.
After a scoreless first period, Marian's Nathan Brummitt (Calgary, AB) put Marian ahead 1-0 just :56 into the second period as he scored off assists from Brendan Hull (Calgary, AB) and Dakota Dubetz (Chestermore, AB). The Bulldogs had the answer however, as Shawn Skelly scored on the power play in the fourth minute to even the game. In the seventh minute, Brad Houston added another power play goal to put Adrian ahead 2-1.
Marian had chances in the third as they out-shot the Bulldogs 15-9, but the Sabres couldn't convert. Instead, Adrian tacked on two goals in the final period to make it 4-1.
Both teams got off 41 shots in the contest.
Marian's Alex Bjerk (Roseau, MN) stopped 37 shots in the contest.
Adrian was 2-for-8 on the power play, while Marian was 0-for-6.
These two teams will face off again tomorrow in Fond du Lac at 4:00 PM.
