Box Score (Fond du Lac, WI) – The Sabres opened the season with an exciting 3-1 victory over Lake Forest College on Wednesday evening. The Sabres dropped the first set 25-22 after leading for most of the set, but rebounded to win the next three.
Marian won the second set 25-19 as they came back from a 13-11 deficit midway through. In the third set, Marian led most of the way, but allowed the Foresters to cut the deficit to 23-22, before putting the visitors away. The fourth set provided a big boost for the Sabres mometum as the erased a 23-19 deficit late by scoring the last six points. The victory was the Sabres first season-opening victory since 2000.
Senior Kelsey Westerveld (Holmen, WI) had a solid all-around night as she led the team with 14 kills, while adding 13 digs and 2 blocks. Freshman Michielah Navis (Waupun, WI) recorded 27 assists in her debut to go along with a team-high 20 digs. Andrea Milis (Darboy, WI) led the team with 5 blocks.
Carlie Kinsey (Waukesha, WI) recorded 14 digs, while Krystell Lucero (Two Rivers, WI), Alexis Becker (North Fond du Lac, WI), and Milis all added 13 digs.
Marian is back in action again on Friday as they will compete in the UW-Whitewater Tournament. They open with UW-Whitewater at 5:00 PM.
