(Fond du Lac, WI) - Gustavus Adolphus College scored the game-winning goal with just 2:34 remaining to earn a 4-3 victory at the Blue Line Family Ice Center on Saturday. Marian (5-5-0) has now lost three straight, while the Gusties (8-3-1) have won five straight. These two teams will meet up again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM.
The Sabres led 1-0 after the first period as Brendan Hull (Calgary, AB) scored his eighth goal of the year at the 17:02 mark. His power play goal was assisted by Nathan Brummitt (Calgary, AB) and Tommy Fitzpatrick (Ft. McMurray, AB).
The Gusties evened the game at the 3:31 mark of the second and then took the lead at the 11:47 mark of the period on a short-handed goal. The Sabres erased that deficit at the 12:50 mark as Dakota Dubetz (Chestermore, AB) scored a power play goal. Hull and Nick Henkemeyer (Prior Lake, MN) assisted on the goal.
In the third, the Gusties grabbed a 3-2 lead with just 5:20 to play on a power play goal. Marian, once again had the answer, as Brendan Roberts (Calgary, AB) scored with some help from Hull and Ryan Hitchcock (Butte, MT) at the 15:21 mark.
The Gusties' Joe Welch scored his second goal, the game-winner, at the 17:26 mark.
Marian's Alex Bjerk (Roseau, MN) stopped 30 shots in the contest.
Gustavus out-shot the Sabres 34-33 in the contest. Marian was 2-for-4 on the power play, while Gustavus was 1-for-5.
