(Mequon, WI) - Marian University matched their longest winning streak of the season on Friday as they defeated Concordia University-Wisconsin 7-4. The Sabres had a huge edge in shots as they outshot the Falcons 70-23. The Sabres fired off 36 shots in the first period. Marian remains atop the MCHA North with an 8-2 conference record. They are 9-6 overall and will look for the sweep tomorrow afternoon at home.
Brendan Hull (Calgary, AB) scored his team-leading, eleventh goal of the season in the 5th minute of the contest to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead. Ryan Hitchcock (Butte, MT) recorded a helper on the play. Less than a half-minute later, the Falcons evened the score, but Marian's Tommy Fitzpatrick (Ft. McMurray, AB) had the answer in the form of a power play goal in the 18th minute. Hull and Dakota Dubetz (Chestermore, AB) assisted on the tally.
In the second, Chris Thompson (Woodbury, MN) made it 3-1with some help from Lane Boswell (Calgary, AB) and Todd Collins (Whitby, ON) at the 15:00 mark. The Falcons cut the deficit to 3-2 late in the period.
Hull scored his second goal of the game early in the third to give Marian a 4-2 lead. His power play goal was assisted by Dubetz and Nathan Brummitt (Calgary, AB). The Falcons then scored two power play goals to even the score at 4-4 with 8:11 to play.
Marian answered in a big way, scoring the last three goals of the contest. Nick Cinquegrani (Rolling Meadows, IL), Dubetz, and Randy Wills (Flint, MI) scored in succession to give Marian the victory. Cinquegrani's game-winner came on the power play.
Brummitt finished the contest with three assists, while Hitchcock, Fitzpatrick, and Dubetz all added a pair of helpers.
Cullen Caldwell (Calgary, AB) is now 4-0 on the season as he stopped 19 shots.
