(Fond du Lac, WI) - The Sabres gave tenth-ranked St. Norbert College all they could handle for one half, but the Green Knights eventually pulled away for a 67-55 victory. The Green Knights are now 1-0 overall, while Marian falls to 0-1.
The Sabres trailed just 28-26 at the break, but were outscored 22-10 in the first ten minutes of the second half. The Sabres also went 7:11 in the second half without a point.
The Green Knights shot 50% (23-for-46) from the field in the contest and held Marian to 38% (18-for-48). The Sabres out-rebounded St. Norbert 31-30, but turned the ball over 24 times in the opener.
Both teams had balanced scoring attacks as Marian had ten players score, while the Green Knights had twelve players score.
Freshman
DJ Vaughn (Aurora, IL) led the Sabres in scoring with 14 points off the bench. He was 4-for-5 from behind-the-arc. Another freshman,
Sam Koslowski (Neenah, WI) added 9 points.
Sam Forkert (Sister Bay, WI) led the squad with 6 rebounds.
Paul Appleton led the Green Knights with 12 points off the bench. John Taylor was solid with seven assists.
Marian is back in action again next Friday, as they will open up the Wartburg College Tournament, with host Wartburg College.
