(Waverly, IA) - Marian University split a pair of games this weekend at the Buzz Levick Tournament held at Wartburg College. They lost to the hosts 85-77 on Friday evening, but defeated Maranatha Baptist 68-62 in the consolation game on Saturday.
On Friday, the Sabres led for most of the first half and held a lead of eight points with 5:28 to play in the half, but Wartburg closed the half on a 16-7 run to end the half and take a one-point lead into the locker room.
In the second, Marian led 49-48 with 12:50 to play, but Wartburg went on a 15-4 run over the next 4:31 to build a double-digit lead. The Sabres trailed the rest of the contest and cut the deficit to four points with 1:48 to play, but could get no closer.
Marian shot 44% (27-for-61) in the contest and were led by Jeff Harris (Calumet Park, IL) as the sophomore scored 18 points. Donnahugh Brown (Negril, Jamaica) and Colin Lohenry (Algoma, WI) added 14 and 11 points, respectively. Lohenry added 11 rebounds for the double-double.
In the victory against Maranatha, the Sabres trailed 41-28 at the break, but recorded a great comeback, outscoring the Crusaders 40-21 in the second to earn the 68-62 victory.
Harris led the team with 19 points, while Lohenry and Brown added 12 and 10 points. Lohenry pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds.
Marian is now 1-2 on the year.
