(Mequon, WI) - A week after falling to Preseason NAC favorite, Concordia-Wisconsin, the Sabres shot 60% from behind-the-arc and defeated the Falcons 72-66. With the victory, the Sabres snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Falcons and are now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
Marian shot a season-best 48.9% (23-for-47) from the field and finished 14-for-17 from the charity stripe to aid in the victory. Marian had three players in double-figures in the contest and out-rebounded Concordia 36-34.
Marian led the whole first half and took a 31-28 lead into the break. In the second, the Falcons grabbed their first lead of the game at 39-37 with 13:31 to play. The Falcons then built a 48-42 lead with 9:13 to play, before Marian came storming back. After evening the score at 50 with 6:20 to play, Marian scored nine of the next eleven points to grab a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Things got close at the end as the Falcons had a chance to cut the deficit to two points at the free-throw line with just 12 seconds remaining, but couldn't connect on a second free throw. The Sabres were able to close out the game by going 3-for-4 from the free-throw line at the end.
Marian was led by
Elizabeth Zutz (Valders, WI) as the sophomore poured in a career-high 22 points. Junior
Alexis Becker (North Fond du Lac, WI) added 21 points and freshman
Dani Huray (Little Chute, WI) added 11 points.
Becker and Zutz also pulled down 7 rebounds apiece to lead Marian.
Kendall Kerns led the Falcons with 20 points and 8 rebounds.
Marian is back in action again on Saturday, as they will host Rockford College at 2:00 PM.
