(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University dropped a 73-62 contest against Alverno College on Thursday evening at Sadoff Gymnasium. The Sabres were out-scored 15-2 over a 5:20 stretch in the second half, allowing the Inferno to take control of the game. 

Marian (5-5, 3-5 NAC) shot 55% from the field in the first half, but still trailed 36-30. Marian was hurt by 15 turnovers in the period, which resulted in 14 Alverno points. Alverno's bench came up huge in the first half, scoring 18 of the 36 points.  

In the second, there were four lead changes and five ties, but the Inferno bench came up big again, scoring 19 of the 37 points. 

Marian tied the game at 49 with 10:21 to play, but scored just two points over the big Inferno run, and couldn't come back. 

Alexis Becker (North Fond du Lac, WI) led the Sabres with 20 points, while Elizabeth Zutz (Valders, WI) and Brooke Haen (Oakfield, WI) added 14 and 12, respectively. Haen also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. 

Shataya McComb led Alverno with 18 points. 

Marian out-rebounded Alverno 36-30 and both teams shot 44% from the field. Marian shot just 5-for-21 from deep, while the Inferno were 9-for-15.
