(Fond du Lac, WI) - Matt Williams (Lacombe, AB) recorded his first collegiate hat trick on Saturday afternoon as Marian defeated Lawrence University 5-2. Williams scored a goal in each period to move Marian to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the MCHA. The Sabres gave the Vikings their first two conference losses of the season this weekend.
Marian out-shot the Vikings 54-30 in this one and the Sabre defense really settled down after a rough start.
Lawrence scored two goals in the first eight minutes of this one, but a Sabre timeout seemed to rally the squad. The Sabres then went on to score five unanswered goals.
Williams and
Matt Berger (Hartland, WI) scored in the first for Marian. Berger's came on a penalty shot. In the second, the Sabres broke the 2-2 tie with goals from Williams and
Dakota Dubetz (Chestermore, AB).
In the third, Williams capped off a great day with a goal just about seven minutes in.
Josh Baker (Canton, MI) picked up his second victory of the weekend, saving 28 shots.
Marian is back in action again next Friday, as they will host Saint Mary's University at 8:00 PM.
