(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University moved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Northern Athletics Conference as they defeated Rockford College 57-53 on Saturday. The Sabres are now just two wins away from matching last season's win total.
Marian fell behind early in this one, but grabbed a lead at the 10:41 mark in the first half that they would not lose. Alexis Becker's (North Fond du Lac, WI) three-pointer sparked a 15-0 run to help Marian grab a 12-point lead. The Sabres took a 32-22 lead into the locker room as they forced the Regents into 13 turnovers.
In the second, Marian led 51-41 with 10:31 to play, but the Regents gradually cut the deficit to 53-51 with 4:32 to play. Marian's Laura Derks (Greenville, WI) hit a three with 2:06 to play, which propelled the Sabres down the stretch.
The Regents had a chance to tie the game with :15 left, but couldn't convert on a three-pointer.
Becker led the Sabres with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Elizabeth Zutz (Valders, WI) was also in double-figures with 12 points. Dani Huray (Little Chute, WI) and Derks each added 9 points.
Becker and Brooke Haen (Oakfield, WI) each dished out 4 assists.
Britney Curry led Rockford with 17 points.
