(Fond du Lac, WI) - Rockford College scored 55 points in the first half on Saturday, en route to a 97-84 victory over Marian University. The Regents had six players score more than twelve points in the victory and are now 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the NAC. Marian fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the NAC.
The Regents broke a 14-14 tie with 14:08 to play in the first half, as they went on a 17-0 run over the next 4:49. They ended up taking a 55-27 lead into the break as Robert Malone poured in 16 points.
In the second, the Sabres worked their way back into the game and cut the deficit to 90-82 with 1:39 to play. Marian had the ball and a chance to cut into the deficit even more, but turned the ball over and the Regents hit four free-throws down the stretch to put the game away.
Marian out-shot the Regents 53.6% to 46.2% and out-rebounded the Regents 39-31, but turned the ball over 21 times. Rockford turned those turnovers into 36 points.
Marian was led by
Jeff Harris (Calumet Park, IL) as he netted 21 points. He connected on 5 three-pointers.
Colin Lohenry (Algoma, WI) and
Donnahugh Brown (Negril, Jamaica) both recorded 16 points, while
Cody Veleke (Oakfield, WI) and
Sam Forkert (Sister Bay, WI) added 14 and 12 points respectively.
Veleke pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, while Forkert added 9. Brown dished out 6 assists to lead Marian.
Malone led the Regents with 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Marian is back in action again on Wednesday, as they will play at Concordia-Wisconsin.
