(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University moved to 3-0 this season against Lawrence University on Saturday evening and will play for the season sweep on Sunday. The Sabres scored four times in the first period in the 6-3 victory.
Marian outshot the Vikings 34-30 and finished 2-for-5 on the power play in the contest to win their eleventh straight game. Marian is now 16-6 overall and 15-2 in the MCHA. With a win on Sunday, the Sabres will tie the school record for the longest unbeaten streak.
Tommy Fitzpatrick (Ft. McMurray, AB), Dakota Dubetz (Chestermore, AB), Justin Cormier (Calgary, AB), and
Todd Collins (Whitby, ON) all scored goals in the first period as Marian came out hot. Fitzpatrick's goal came on the power play.
Masa Takahashi scored twice for the Vikings in the second period to make it 4-2. Marian's
Nathan Brummitt (Calgary, AB) scored at the 14:59 mark in the period to give Marian a 5-2 lead heading into the final period.
In the third, Fitzpatrick scored his second goal of the game at the 8:00 mark to finish the scoring for Marian. Lawrence tallied a score in the 13th minute.
Alex Bjerk (Roseau, MN) stopped 28 shots for the Sabres.
These two teams will meet up again on Sunday at 2:00 in Fond du Lac.
