(Fond du Lac, WI) - The MCHA announced its league awards at a banquet held in conjunction with the MCHA Tournament on Thursday evening. The league's All-Conference, All-Freshmen, and All-Academic Teams were named, as well as the Player-of-the-Year and Coach-of-the-Year.
Marian was well-represented as the Sabres landed five players on the All-Conference team. Forwards
Brendan Hull (Calgary, AB) and
Dakota Dubetz (Chestermore, AB) were honored, while defensemen
Nathan Brummitt (Calgary, AB) and
Tommy Fitzpatrick (Ft. McMurray, AB) made the team. Goalie
Alex Bjerk (Roseau, MN) also landed a spot on the team.
Dubetz, a freshman, led the Sabres in scoring in conference play with 32 points (15G/17A). His 32 points placed him seventh in the MCHA in scoring. He also led the conference in power play points. Right behind him was Hull, a senior, who finished in eighth with 30 points (16G/14A). Hull and Dubetz finished the regular season tied with 35 points apiece. Hull led the MCHA with five game-winning goals.
Fitzpatrick and Brummitt, both newcomers to the Marian team, gave the Sabres consistent production from the blue line all season. Fitzpatrick was thirteenth in the conference in scoring with 24 points (5G/19A). The freshman set school-records for assists and points in a season by a defenseman. Brummitt, a transfer from Utica College, finished with 21 points (6G/15A).
Bjerk, another freshman, finished the season second in save percentage (.908). His 2.74 goals-against-average placed him fourth in the MCHA. He was also third in the conference with a .818 winning percentage (9-2-0).
Adrian's Michael Dahlinger was named the MCHA Player-of-the-Year, while Marian's Jasen Wise was named the MCHA Coach-of-the-Year.
Wise has now won the award two of the last three years. Wise led the Sabres to a 19-6 overall record and an 18-2 record in the MCHA. His squad broke the school-record for victories in a season, MCHA victories in a season, and also set a new school-record with a fourteen-game winning-streak to close out the regular season.
Marian also had a conference-high, fourteen players make the MCHA All-Academic Team. Seniors
Ryan Hitchcock (Butte, MT), Jason Ford (Milford, MI), Nick Cinquegrani (Rolling Meadows, IL), Mitch Bye (Burlington, ON), and
Nick Henkemeyer (Prior Lake, MN), juniors
Randy Wills (Flint, MI), Todd Collins (Whitby, ON), Zack Fray (Cambridge, ON), and Brummitt, as well as sophomores
Lane Boswell (Calgary, AB), Ryan Compeau (Romeo, MI), Justin Cormier (Calgary, AB), Justin De Maa (Waupun, WI), and
Chris Thompson (Woodbury, MN) were all honored for their efforts in the classroom.
