(Fond du Lac, WI) - The Sabres dropped a pair of two-run decisions in a gorgeous late afternoon doubleheader at Smith Fields on Wednesday evening. Concordia University-Wisconsin won game one 4-2 and finished with a 6-4 victory in eight innings. The Sabres are now 12-9 overall and 5-5 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
In game one, Marian took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as
Emily Wiesman (Sheboygan, WI) had a RBI single.
The Falcons scored all of their runs in the third inning as they scored four runs on five hits. The Sabres scored a run in the fifth, but could get no closer.
Wiesman led the Sabres at the plate as she was 3-for-4 with a run and a RBI.
Cherise Waltz (South Byron, WI) took the loss on the mound despite pitching well. She went the distance and faced the minimum in every inning except the third.
The Sabres out-hit the Falcons in the first game 7-6.
In game two, Marian took a 2-0 lead in the fourth as
Amy Malcore (Luxemburg, WI) and
Maria Archie (Madison, WI) each had RBIs.
The Falcons scored three in the fifth and another in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. The Sabres responded right away, as they plated two in the bottom of the sixth. Archie doubled in Wiesman and
Ashley Engler (Waterford, WI) singled in Archie.
After a scoreless seventh, the Falcons scored twice on three hits and a Sabre error in the eighth inning to take home the victory.
The Falcons out-hit Marian 12-8 in the contest.
