(River Forest, IL) - Marian University only scored twice in their doubleheader on Saturday, but was fortunate enough to split against Concordia University-Chicago. The Sabres won game one 1-0 behind a pitching gem from
Jamie Whitehead (Kimberly, WI), but fell 3-1 in game two.
In game one, the Sabres scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning as
Ashley Engler (Waterford, WI) doubled in
Emily Wiesman (Sheboygan, WI). Engler had three of Marian's four hits.
Whitehead went the distance in the shutout and struck out three. She scattered four hits.
In game two, the Cougars (6-22, 5-7 NAC) scored single runs in the first, third, and sixth innings, while Marian scored their only run in the second inning. The Cougars out-hit Marian 11-6 in the contest.
Wiesman led the offense with a pair of hits.
Marian (13-10, 6-6 NAC) is back on the road tomorrow, as they will play at Dominican University.
