(River Forest, WI) Marian University finished up the weekend 2-2 in NAC play as they split with Dominican University on Sunday. Dominican won game one 11-5, but the Sabres came back to win game two, 2-1 in eight innings.
The Stars used a seven-run second inning to grab control of game one. They scored their seven runs on just two hits. The Sabres committed one error in the inning and walked or hit six Star batters.
After the Stars made it 9-0 in the fourth, Marian cut the deficit to 9-5 in the fifth, as
Emily Wiesman (Sheboygan, WI) hit a grand slam. The Stars closed out the scoring with two more in the sixth.
Brooke Haen (Oakfield, WI) was 3-for-3 in the game, while
Ashley Engler (Waterford, WI) added a pair of hits.
Game two was a pitcher's dual as neither team scored in the first seven innings. Marian finally scored in the top of the eighth, as Wiesman hit her second home run of the day to make it 1-0. The Sabres added a key insurance run later in the inning as Engler singled home
Amy Malcore (Luxemburg, WI).
In the bottom of the eighth, the Stars recorded three hits, but were able to get just one run.
Cherise Waltz (South Byron, WI) picked up the complete-game victory, as she scattered seven hits. She struck out three and walked just one.
Marian (14-11, 7-7 NAC) is back in action again on Tuesday, as they will play at Edgewood College.
