(Fond du Lac, WI) - Cherise Waltz (South Byron, WI) dominated Rockford College on Saturday afternoon as she pitched two complete-game shutouts to help Marian earn the sweep. With the victories, Marian (18-19, 10-12 NAC) kept themselves alive for a berth in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament next weekend.
Waltz struck out six in game one and gave up just three hits as Marian won 5-0. She didn't give up a hit until the fifth inning.
The Sabres scored twice in the fourth and added three insurance runs in the sixth.
Maria Archie (Madison, WI), Amy Malcore (Luxemburg, WI), and
Kristyn Schmidt (Rosendale, WI) all had two hits for the Sabres. Malcore drove in a pair of runs, while
Ashley Engler (Waterford, WI) scored twice.
The Sabres out-hit the Regents 12-3 in the contest.
In game two, the Sabres needed only five innings to win 8-0. Marian out-hit the Regents 8-4 in the contest.
Waltz struck out three in the game to move to 8-8 on the season.
Engler led the Sabre offense going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Archie scored three times for Marian.
Marian will close out their regular season tomorrow at Alverno College. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
