(Oshkosh, WI) - The Marian University women's soccer team opened their season with a 3-1 defeat at UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday evening. The Sabres held the Titans scoreless for the first fifty-two minutes, but the Titans attack was too much for Marian late in the game.
The Titans out shot the Sabres 35-4 in the contest and were able to put 15 of those shots on goal. UW-Oshkosh really put the pressure on in the second period with 24 shots.
The Titans got on the board in the 52nd minute off a goal by Carmen Fiordellsi. Caitlin Casey assisted on the play. They made it 2-0 in the 70th minute as Jennifer Nesbitt scored off a corner kick. Kelsey Spaith assisted on the play. The Titans tallied their last goal in the 85th minute as Abby Neumeyer scored off another corner kick. Casey picked up her second helper of the evening.
Marian's goal came late in the contest from senior Kim Kriese (Stevens Point, WI), as she scored in the 86th minute. Freshman Jade Koeune (Winneconne, WI) picked up her first career assist on the play.
Senior goalkeeper, Tiffany Erdman (Wausau, WI) stopped 12 shots in the contest.
Marian (0-1) is back in action again on Saturday, as they will travel to Beloit College. Action is set to begin at 2:00 PM.
