Dominican too much for Marian

Kapusta led Dominican with two goals.

Coach Peltonen's Quotes

"It's good to play games like this against teams that are nationally ranked, especially when they're in you conference. No other sport at Marian that competes in the NAC, has a team like Dominican to play against. This gives us a special challenge to test ourselves against the best. Unfortuanately, we didn't pass the test very well. We started off a bit shaky the first few minutes of the game, but then settled in and had a good shape to our game plan. Once you get out of the shape though, good teams will capitilize on your errors and that is what Domincan did with the first goal. We got lax defensively out wide and then failed to adjust and step up in the back. We went into halftime down 1-0 and I thought we'd be able to regroup and make it a game in the second half."

"Of course the 2nd half was a different matter as Dominican proceeded to score 4 more goals and to ease to a 5-0 win. This game was always going to be a challenge for us and hopefully our players can be introspective and figure out things they can do to improve on to be able to play and that kind of level. The biggest issue we had in the 2nd half was giving the ball up way too often in our own half. This allowed Dominican to only have to get 40-50 yards, and often times off the counter from that distance, to get near our goal. The first half they had to get 70 or 80 yards most of the time and through 8 players instead of 4 or 5 often in the 2nd half. This was one a huge difference to me between the halves. When you lose 5-0, it's tough identifying good players performances, but freshman keeper Nathan Thiery did well coming off his line many times to prevent scoring chances, espcially off serves into the box."

"Bottom line, it was our first NAC game, and we have 10 to go. Those 10 are going to be the most important ones. We can learn from this game, improve our play, and then get out there and win the vast majority of those games.  I'm confident we have the ability to do that."
